G'day #1    1 December 1999

G'day.

Thanks for dropping in. This is a big thrill for me. I've been planning this website for ages, and the bit I've been most excited about is this bit. A place where I can say G'day every couple of weeks and rabbit on about all sorts of personal stuff that I probably shouldn't really make public, but which might get you a couple of extra marks in your school assignment. Or at least give you a smile.

I'm going to be as honest as I can in these G'days, and I've just realised I've already told you a lie. I've been thinking about this website for ages, but it's my brother Nick who's been planning it. He's a photographer and website designer, and he put the whole thing together. All I had to do was write the words and he did the rest, which is very lucky for me as I know nothing about design or computer language. Plus Nick's not charging me anywhere near as much as he charges multinational corporations and international arms dealers.

If you drop in here every couple of weeks, you'll find a new G'day from me with stuff about what I'm writing or what I've just finished writing or what I'm planning to write next or what I should be writing if I wasn't cleaning the grouting in the shower. The old G'days will all be stored on a separate page, so if you've been away or in jail and you want to catch up, that's where you'll find them.

I hope you'll send me the odd g'day as well. You can do it via the visitors book page and I promise I'll read it. I'll put the most interesting and passionate and unusual and funny g'days I receive on the visitors book page so everyone can read them.

I won't be able to answer your g'days individually, though. Unfortunately it takes me about ten minutes to answer an e-mail because I'm a fairly slow typist and sometimes an even slower thinker. So if I answer a hundred e-mails, it's going to take me a thousand minutes, which is over 16 hours. Which, as you can imagine, would affect my book-writing pretty drastically, specially as I rarely write for more than about 7 hours a day.

I hope you enjoy exploring the site and please do let me know what you think. I've got to go now because I'm halfway through writing another six-part story with Paul Jennings, and it's my turn to write a chapter. It's called Deadly, and I'll tell you more about it, and about working with Paul, in the next G'day.

Oo-roo
