The MS Readathon people asked me to be their patron for this year, and I said yes without them having to twist my arm or my reading glasses. The reason is simple. The MS Readathon is my kind of fund-raising event. Not only do you raise money for a very important cause, you do it by reading books. And you earn prizes for yourself at the same time. I think it's what's called a win/win/win situation. Most importantly, the money raised goes to help people living with a disease called multiple sclerosis. It does this in four different ways. Here's how the MS Readathon website describes them:
How does the MS Readathon work? That's simple too. 1. You register. 2. You get family, friends, neighbours and the cat to sponsor you. 3. Between 3 June and 20 July, you read as many books as you can. The more you read, the more money you raise and the more prizes you earn. You can find out how to register, how to get sponsorship forms, how to read (only joking), and what prizes you can earn at the MS Readathon website. Lots of schools get involved, so tell your friends and teachers. And don't forget to ask your parents' permission. I've met quite a few professional fundraisers over the years, and they all get their parents' permission before embarking on major new fundraising initiatives. I hope you'll join me in being part of this year's MS Readathon. Reading books is one of my favourite things to do, and I reckon being able to battle a tricky and mysterious disease without leaving your favourite chair is a great way to spend an afternoon. Until next time, oo-roo, happy reading and happy participating in a win/win/win situation.
