G'day #76    30 April 2006

G'day.

A couple of days ago I finished the first draft of a new book, Doubting Thomas. It feels a bit like coming out of hibernation after all those weeks of writing and I admit I’ve been celebrating a bit. Nothing lavish, just picking the dried fruit and nuts out of the muesli and eating them first, stuff like that.

I’ve also been apologizing. You have to do a lot of apologizing when you come out of hibernation. Bears and desert frogs have to, and authors do too. You have to apologize to your family for not answering their phone calls or requests for food. You have to apologize to the neighbours for letting dead leaves and reject pages pile up in your driveway. And you have to apologize to people who sent in stamped self-addressed envelopes for taking such a long time to send them their free book.

Sorry, people who sent in stamped self-addressed envelopes, for taking such a long time to send you your free book. It wasn’t the fault of the free book helpers. It was the fault of the author (see above). Now my writing hand is available to sign all the free books, you should be getting yours quite soon.

If the reason you haven’t received your free book is that you haven’t sent in a stamped self-addressed envelope yet, now’s your chance. I won’t be starting the second draft of Doubting Thomas for a few weeks. So I’m available to sign a free book for you with minimum waiting. Go for it.

Until next time (when I’ll tell you more about Doubting Thomas), oo-roo and happy reading (and posting),

Morris
